Raymund Lee Canales

Raymund Lee Canales, 57, was born Nov. 10, 1965, in Kingsville, Texas. The family move to Kelso, Wash., and Ray attended Wallace Elementary, Coweeman Middle School, and graduated from Kelso High School. He moved to Idaho in the early 1990’s and returned to the local area approximately five years ago. He passed away Dec. 1, 2022.

Ray was a set up operator/die setter in a metal manufacturing plant in Idaho for approximately 20 years. He was an avid football fan, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and of course the Kelso Highlanders. He loved fishing, “Got ‘eem” always being chanted after a good catch. He also loved camping, cooking barbecue (best tripas ever), and spending time with his family.

He was especially proud of the time he spent coaching the kids in youth sports. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was a beloved father, brother and uncle to over 70 nieces and nephews. Ray always brought a big smile and good joke to every family event. He made everyone around him happy. He was an all-around good person with a big heart who will be truly missed.

He is survived by three sons and their families, Steven Baker in Wyoming, Raymund McDaniel, his wife Angele Brooke McDaniel, and their daughter, Lainey Ray McDaniel, of Naval Base Guam in Santa Rita, and Anthony Canales, his wife Shakira Canales, and their son Elliot Thor Canales in Idaho; two daughters and their families, Mariah (Canales)Quin, her husband Saul Marro Quin, and their children Gabriel and Zenya in Idaho, and Olivia Canales, also in Idaho; four sisters, Gracie (Dan) Jansen of Kalama, Wash., and Sylvia Pierson, Linda (Matt) Marshall, and Maria Ramsdell, all of Longview, Wash.; and two brothers, Robert Canales of Kelso, Wash., and John Canales of Longview, Wash.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Canales; four sisters, Camelia Canales, Maria Canales, Rosario Canales, and Eloise Canales; and a brother, Eugene Canales.

A viewing is planned for 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Steele Chapel, 5050 Mt. Solo Road in Longview. A burial procession will follow with a graveside service at Hudson Park Cemetery beginning at 1 p.m. Anthony Canales, Raymund McDaniel, John Canales, Cheyenne Ruiz, Gene Mendez, and Mike Martin will serve as pallbearers. Services will conclude with a celebration of Ray’s life at the AWPPW Hall.
