Marie Theresa Chambers passed away peacefully at home in Longview surrounded by family on February 26, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Buford K. (“Buff” BK) Chambers in 2014, and son Daniel Joseph Chambers in 2021.
Marie was born on September 8, 1929, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She spent her childhood with her two siblings in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from St Mary’s Academy in 1947. She met the love of her life Buford Chambers while she was working at Lipman’s Department Store in downtown Portland. They married in 1948 and moved to Kelso in 1954.
Marie was an amazing mother of nine children. She taught all her children what it means to be strong. Marie was a lifelong Catholic, involved in both St. Mary’s in Kelso and St. Rose in Longview. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Three Rivers Golf Course 9 Holers. She was often found on the course with her golfing pals. She loved plants, flowers, and gardening. She was a painter and chalk artist, a batik artist as well as a seamstress and quilter. She taught her children to cook anything and everything from scratch - never from a box. During the 1970s, Marie managed the housewares and gift department at Schneider’s Hardware on Commerce in Longview while Buff managed the rest of the store. Marie leaves behind a legacy of strength, faith, love, and family.
Buford “Buff” and Marie celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary with their extended family and friends shortly before Buff’s passing.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:28 (NIV)
