Evelyn Jean Smith

February 15, 1934 — March 24, 2021

Evelyn J. Smith passed away on March 24, 2021.

She was born February 15, 1934, in Grafton, North Dakota to Victor and Angeline (Collette) Lessard. After graduating from high school Evelyn moved to Longview, Washington and soon thereafter met Charles (Pete) Smith. They corresponded for a year while Pete completed his service in the Air Force. They were married on June 25, 1955 at St. Rose Catholic church by Father Patrick Mulligan. Evelyn and Pete worked at Longview Fibre’s box plant, and Evelyn quit working to stay at home when their first child arrived that following summer.

Evelyn had six children. She lost her fourth child, Charles Edward, after thirteen months due to health complications. She raised the remaining five to adulthood. As the children grew up, she returned to the work force by working part-time cleaning Dr. Feusler’s office. She then worked at the Red Lion as a housekeeper for several years where she was recognized multiple times as housekeeper of the year.

After retiring from work, Evelyn spent many years taking care of her mother.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Charles Edward, her husband, Charles, her brother, the Reverend Ray Lessard and her parents.

She is survived by her children David (Denise) Smith; Cindy (Mike) Mackey, Barbara (Jim) Armstrong, Ray (Stacie) Smith and Donna (Rod) Bell. She also has thirteen grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose church on April 14, 2021, at 11:00 AM. There will be a rosary preceding the mass at 10:30 AM. The internment will take place following the Funeral mass at Longview Memorial Park cemetery.
