It is with heavy hearts we announce Cheyenne DeFrates, 42, of Cathlamet, Wash., passed away unexpectedly at home June 3, 2023.
Cheyenne was born Aug. 23, 1980, in Longview. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1998, where he was a member of the baseball team. Cheyenne attended Lower Columbia College for a year and Washington State University’s Portland Campus for two years.
On Aug. 30, 2014, he married Erin Scott in Wenatchee, Wash. She survives him at home.
Cheyenne was a mechanical engineer for Summit Attachments and Machinery. He enjoyed kayaking, driving adventures, and beach time with his wife. He also enjoyed reading, music, and time with his children. He was fun-loving, witty, adventurous, mischievous, charming and lovable.
In addition to his wife, Erin DeFrates, Cheyenne is survived by his mother, Lauri (Jimison) Sabo of Cathlamet; his father, Cheyenne DeFrates of Kelso; two siblings, Jenny Fowler (Tony) of Castle Rock and Amy DeFrates (Theo) of Toutle; a daughter, Sophia (DeFrates) Carriker of Longview; a son, Mikhail DeFrates of Cathlamet; two stepsons, Brayden Snow of Seattle, and Gavin Snow of Longview; an aunt, Shelli Jimison of Longview; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Marilyn Jimison.
A celebration of Cheyenne’s life is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, June 17 at 1220 Schaffran Road, in Castle Rock.
