CHRISTENSEN, Barbara L, “Barbie”, age 81, formerly of Sunnyside, WA passed away on Saturday November 4th, 2023, in Mt. Vernon, WA. Barbie passed peacefully in her sleep while next to her husband of 52-years. Barbie is survived by her husband, Daniel Christensen, her sons, Jeffrey and Shawn Christensen, and their families. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to her grandkids Ainsley, Teagan & Ryder Christensen.
Barbie was born, raised and spent the vast majority of her life living in the lower Yakima Valley. She was an active member of the community working for the Department of Licensing and later as a Parapro for the Sunnyside School District. Following a stroke, she moved to Mt. Vernon, WA in recent years to be closer to her family and especially her grandchildren. While living in Mt. Vernon, she became a regular attendee of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and loved going to church with her family and friends.
Barie was a devoted mother and crafty person at heart. She loved to spend her free time knitting and doing counted cross-stitch. Her passion was in sewing personal items for her family and friends. If she wasn’t sewing, you could find her cooking in the kitchen where she loved to bake. During the summertime she would pick berries and “can” her own jams and jellies. She had a soft heart for animals and could regularly be found with one of her beloved Pomeranians sitting in her lap. One of her top interests in life was researching family Genealogy, both on her own ancestors as well as teaching and helping others on how to trace their own family roots.
Barbara will be greatly missed by her family. She will be buried on November 13, 2023, at 1 pm in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Sunnyside, WA, 7800 Van Belle Rd, Sunnyside, WA 98944.
